Summer 2013: Replacing of Pride Proclamation

AWARD: What’s Unfair to All  is Charity and Goodwill To Council

Prize Awarded to Porterville’s City Council Wall of Shame Towards the LGBT Community

Prize Awarded to Porterville’s City Council Wall of Shame Towards the LGBT Community

The  unprecedented rescission of Porterville’s June 2013 Pride Month Proclamation was not enough for either Council or the Bible-waving crowd that turned out repeatedly during June and July. In parallel to Brian Ward’s rescission motion, Greg Shelton carried a mean-spirited retroactive Replacement Resolution.

Even though July was already more than half over, by the same bloc 3-2 vote, June was retroactively declared a month of “Charity and Goodwill for All”.

The irony was entirely missed by Council and its fans.

Resolution Author: Greg Shelton
Mayor: Virginal Gurrola
Vote: 3-2 to rescind. In Favor: Brian Ward, Cameron Hamilton, Greg Shelton. Against: Virginia Gurrola, Pete McCracken.
